Music Marketing Blog Post 1

My group and I have been working on our music marketing project for about two weeks. We have been trying to figure out a theme that would match the vibe of the song. We got the country song 'Need You Now'. We first watched the music video of the song to gain some inspiration for the theme of our band. We decided to go for a modernized logo and name. We named our band O.N.L.Y. This stands for the initials of our group's singers Oscar Newborn and Lila Yeager. We made an Instagram and YouTube and Twitter page for our duo where they will promote their music video and song so it can be successful. Even though at the beginning we did have some trouble finding the theme of our band and how it was going to be displayed to the public, when we were done with that, we were able to think of some great ideas and had very good progress.

Then we started thinking about what kind of music video we were going to make. We decided to make a promotional storytelling music video. We are going to have a story about a couple that breaks up and they are coping through the breakup. The song starts with the words "picture perfect memories" so we're going to have a scene where the two people are looking ate polaroid pictures of each other. Our promotional part of our music video is going to take place at Weston Town Center where the two singers are going to be singing at night. We chose this location because we wanted to display a small town, so since Weston Town Center looks like a small town, we felt that it was a very good location for the video. Another location we are using is Markham Park. The video is going to start with the couple fighting and breaking up at Markham Park and it’s going to end with them reuniting at Markham Park. There are going to be some scenes with the sun setting because we feel like it matches the theme of our video and our duo. We are going to shoot the music video this weekend so we can focus on our presentation next week.

We also decided to make merch for our duo. We spent one class period on this and made some good designs that could help market the name of our duo and their new song. We made hats, shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, a deck of cards, mugs, jackets, phone cases, and facemasks with the logo of our duo. We also made a shirt to promote the nation-wide tour. The shirt has the logo of our duo and on the back, it has the dates of each concert of the tour. We feel that with the merch, we can promote the brand very well mostly because the design is very simple and attractive to many people and can catch the attention of people easily.
